(Lincoln, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman today announced tourism marketing grants totaling nearly $125,000 for 36 entities across the state. Grants are used to promote a wide variety of attractions and events in Nebraska.“The funding provided through this program helps promote local events and regional attractions across our state,” Gov. Heineman said. “These grants help spread the word on places to visit and things to do in Nebraska. Travel and tourism opportunities continue to grow, particularly in our most rural areas, and provide income and employment opportunities for local residents.”

Funding for tourism marketing grants comes from revenue generated by the state lodging tax. The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) administers the program, which includes the promotion of an event or a region of the state and general marketing activities. Applicants included 90 proposals requesting nearly $580,000 in grants.

DED Director Richard Baier said, “These marketing grants help communities respond to potential travelers.   They also help communities take pride in what they have to offer and make the best of otherwise untapped potential.”
